This will probably surprise you but I really don't have
anything pertinent to rant about! OK, that lasted a whole thirty seconds!
We live in the beautiful little hamlet of Bonney Lake; at
least it used to be. As with all things, growth occurs. Our previous mayor, Bob
something or another was interested in growth, because with growth comes
revenue! He hid behind the fact that he was a minister. Good Riddance. Our new
mayor, Neil Johnson, is a little more sensible. But, it will take him a long
time to slow the train down that Bob Young started.
For the third year in a row.....I just registered to ride the STP (Seattle to Portland) bike
race with one of my best friends, Mark Taylor. We make quite the pair for a
couple of old dudes! It's 212 miles (on a bike!) in two days. Last year we averaged
almost 18mph; about 12 total hours in the seat. I don't know if you ride or not but
18mph on a bike is hauling butt! And that was the average! We developed a trade
mark trait now known as "sharking" where we'd slowly run up
behind someone and then blow past them fast enough where they couldn't catch up
and draft us! Hey...even old guys have to get their kicks somehow! This is the race
where we both discovered our strengths. Mark's the sprinter and I'm happy going
up the grades, actually, this was the first time I've ever gone up a grade,
accelerating through 20mph! It was a blast! Mark's favorite game was "Catch &
Release" and it was fun to watch someone go past us and watch Mark peddle
his little heart out to catch them (which he did easily) and then let them go
(with a snicker on his face)! New for this year....we convinced Elizabeth to
ride with us (she's quite the cyclist!).
Oh well, on the bright side, after a long winter of work
and Elizabeth going back to school...it's possibly back to Cozumel in
the end of May! We liked it so much we bought a place there! Now I just have to lose
that gut!
